A guide to matcha — the leaf you buy, the tools you use, and the life around the bowl. It covers what to look for in a tin, what the words on the label actually mean, and where the tea comes from — plain answers to the questions people arrive with.
How it's written
The research comes from Japanese primary sources — the tea trade bodies, the growers, agricultural records, the ISO documents. Figures are traced back to where they were first published, with the year and the body that issued them. Where a source is thin, or the records disagree, the range is given rather than a single tidy number.
The Quiet Pick
Most guides here end with a favorite. When one does, it carries a single seal — 静, "quiet" — set against a standard decided before the reviewing began. There is one per guide, and it turns on what changes the tea in the cup: the leaf, the grind, the shade-growing, the freshness. It is never placed on our own products.
How the site makes money
The site is paid for by affiliate links. When you buy something through one, it may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. Some are through Amazon; others are direct with the makers. That is the whole of the business model, and the mechanics are set out on the disclosure page.
